Senior Materials Manager

The Senior Materials Manager will envision, define and create a top materials procurement team. This team will be responsible for material planning and order placement of products necessary to support manufacturing, sales, engineering and quality operations. Amphenol DC Electronics, Inc. is a custom cable assembly and wire harness manufacturing company based in Silicon Valley, CA. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

· Build and motivate a cross-functional Material/Planning team to support the needs of a quick turns contract manufacturer.
· Establish and leverage strategic relationships with key suppliers and contract manufacturers to reduce product costs, maximize profitability, and drive rapid market share growth.
· Oversee the purchase and negotiation of materials, equipment, and supplies from approved vendors. Negotiate contracts to reduce inventory investment.
· Evaluate vendors and negotiate for needs of manufacturing to obtain product; on time and at best possible pricing.
· Oversee performance of the supply chain. Responsible for assuring lowest cost solution and managed material flow to support production requirements.
· Responsible for inventory management to assure limited excess and obsolete inventory.
· Oversee periodic inventory counts.
· Lead the Purchasing and Materials Department
· Continually improve department procedures and execution
· Minimize total procurement costs
· Lead strategic vendor relations through competitive pricing, sourcing and contract negotiation
· Contribute to the financial success of Amphenol DC Electronics

QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. · Excellent negotiating skills.
· Strategic planning.
· Extensive knowledge of material procurement.
· Vendor management and negotiation.
· Able to manage the expediting of material and rapidly remove constraints in the flow of material.
· Expertise to develop a staff and guide them to reaching full potential.
· Must have the ability to understand and translate technical information.
· Thorough knowledge of warehouse management and job kitting practices.
· Ethical business practices with suppliers and coworkers.
· Strong technical background in contract manufacturing
· Thorough knowledge of RFP process (Pricing and service coordination)
· Strong communication skills and interpersonal skills
· Experienced in implementing JIT and Kanban programs
· Comfortable with multitasking
· Ability to travel periodically to work or field locations,
· Able to managing multiple sites
· Experience with warehouse management
· Experience within the contract manufacturing industry for electronics, consumer products and more.

Special Skills:
· Preferably experience with Epicor
· Knowledge of MRP analysis to drive procurement activities.
· Supply chain management skills. (Schedule sharing, JIT, KAN-BAN, and Blanket Orders).
· Experience working with off shore suppliers and developing strategic supplier relationships.

Personal Skills:
· Self-starter with a “can do” attitude, a strong work ethic and a sense of urgency.
· Able to improve present systems and implement new systems.
· Proactive and solution oriented.
· Professional demeanor
· Ability to deal effectively with all levels of internal/external organizational authority
· Leadership competency is required to lead, coach, motivate facilitate and manage cross-functional teams


· A minimum of five to seven years strategic purchasing experience
· BS or BA Degree


· Excellent written and verbal communication skills


Literate in computer software including all common Microsoft Office applications, able to use the Internet in support of job tasks. Knowledge of Cetec a plus.


This position requires use of a computer. Work is in an office environment and a manufacturing environment.
